Chennai and Kolkata are the only cities with direct connections to the Andaman Islands, it is likely that you will be flying in, or travelling by ship, from there. To get to Havelock, you have to travel via Port Blair, the capital city of the Andaman Islands. A ferry will then transfer you from Port Blair to Havelock. The airport is just 2 kms away from the city of Port Blair.

Ships also ply between the mainland and Port Blair, with departures from Kolkata, Visakhapatnam and Chennai. Tickets for the ships will have to be booked in advance and the 3-day journey can be arduous given the basic amenities on board. Although the ship is an option for travellers on a low budget and without time constraints, we recommend flying into the Andamans. With the advent of low-cost airlines flying into Port Blair, ticket prices have reduced significantly, and the short durations, greater convenience and comfort of the flights compared to the ships justifies spending the extra money. Also, spending three days on a ship means that you get two days’ less diving!!

Once you have landed in Port Blair, Havelock is just a ferry ride away. There are three ferries that ply between Port Blair and Havelock on a daily basis.

All incoming flights arrive in Port Blair in time for travellers to catch a ferry, allowing you to reach Havelock on the same day. Havelock has one jetty at Beach No.1, and Barefoot Scuba at Beach No.3 is just a 10 minutes auto-rickshaw or taxi ride away.

Travellers can choose between the slower Government ferry and the new faster Catamaran ferry depending on their arrival time in Port Blair as well as their budget. Ferry timings from Havelock to Port Blair do not correlate with flight timings to mainland India, all tourists must spend the last night in Port Blair. It will be our pleasure to book you into a nice hotel room for this last night depending on your requirements and budget.

Barefoot Scuba offers to meet its guests at the Port Blair airport, transfer them to the Phoenix Bay jetty from which the ferries depart, organise ferry tickets to Havelock, and transfer them from the Havelock jetty to the resort of their choice. On the return leg as well, we organise all car transfers, ferry tickets, hotel drop in Port Blair for the last night and airport drop in time for the return flight.

Single person round trip transfers are charged at Rs.1,800 and Rs.2,800 is charged for a couple. These prices are inclusive of ferry tickets by Government ferry only and upgrades to the faster Catamaran are possible at an additional Rs.400 per person per way.
